The Fitness Games- App Review

There’s nothing like a little extra motivation when you’re gearing up for a lifting session, a hard run, or a bike ride.  If you’re a bit competitive like me, working out with a group is always a great way to go to push yourself just a bit harder.  The Fitness Games has taken that same sprit of competition and developed an app to help you push harder, go farther, and track your progress while doing it!

The app is available for iPhone and and Android, and has a slew of cool features.

You can challenge anyone, anywhere to a workout and the app will let you know who was the victor.  You can post selfies, videos, and progress to have a real time social media stream of accomplishments from you and your other competitors.

I downloaded the app on Friday and have already given in a try.  Not only is it super user friendly, it actually incorporates different workout types into the mix.  You can choose from Strength, Cardiovascular, Full Body or Cross Training challenges, and it links to Facebook to make it easy to find friends and connect with people through the app.

As a final awesome touch there is an option to upgrade to a paid version of the app and access workouts on your phone.

If you’re looking for a fun new fitness app, I really recommend checking out The Fitness Games and giving it a try!

I wish I was as skinny as I was the last time I thought I was fat

braille

My sister and I are in pretty much the same boat; our weight has yo-yoed up and down since puberty.  Different diet and exercise fads along the way have propelled us in one direction or another, and while over the past two and a half years I’ve really worked to find some balance, the psychological food demons still exist.

Sis is going in for gastric bypass next week, and as you all know I’ve been on a now 13 week lifestyle overhaul that has resulted in over 30 lbs of weight loss so far.

cranky

She and I were talking the other day and she said something so brilliant, I have to share it here.

I wish I was as skinny as I was the last time I thought I was fat.

That seriously got me thinking.  Just a week ago I was nearly brought to tears when I tried on a pair of jeans I used to wear in college (COLLEGE guys), and they fit.  Granted, I would never actually wear them for real now because apparently in college having your inseam so tiny that your vayjayjay almost falls out was totally a thing.  What the hell good is a two inch zipper anyway?  But I digress.  My college jeans fit.

And yet, when I look at my body in the mirror I still note that I can’t see my abs yet and there’s still some inner thigh jiggle that I want gone.

I’m the smallest I’ve been in years, and because I’ve done it through awesome lifestyle changes that include weight training and a super healthy but not restrictive diet, I’ve got a great physique.  But in my head, it’s still not enough.

The last time I was this weight I was training and racing a Half Ironman.  I also remember thinking that I wanted to be smaller then.

But I’ll tell ya what gang, if four months ago I could have just woken up one day and looked like I do now I probably would have burst into tears from joy.  I have come SO FAR and I actually really love how I look if I give myself 10 seconds to think about it.

So really, the moral of this story is simply this… appreciate the body that you’re in.  Recognize that if you’re psycho like me you may never be happy with how you look, but give yourself permission to take a step back and celebrate your progress.

That’s what I’m doing today.  And every day.

Now that's what I call confidence.
Now that’s what I call confidence.

Little Victories

I’ve lost some weight kittens.  I mean, I’ve been pretty transparent about that, but now that I’m over the 25 lbs mark I’m really starting to see some differences.

Granted, the past few weeks the number on the scale has slowed its descent, but my clothes are continuing to feel looser, and hubs CAN NOT SHUT UP about my ass, so these are all good things.

Today, while switching the clothes from the washer to the dryer I realized that I put EVERYTHING in the dryer.  Like everything.  Even the things that two months ago I would have hung up because if they shrunk even a millimeter there was no way I was cramming my thunder thighs into them.

Now not only do I dry them, but I NEED to, because they’re getting too big.

It’s always nice to appreciate the little things.

What little victories have you had lately?  Share share share!

I’m irritatingly happy enough I deserve that face punch

Holy crap kittens.  I feel like some sort of self-help-believe-in-your-dreams-and-they-will-come-true book right now.  I’m actually kind of pissing myself off with how happy I am.

Remember that epiphany on Wednesday that I cheesily said would “change my life.”  Well um, yeah.  Apparently that was like, true.

I promise to give ya’ll the gory details once everything is officially official, but the short version is that, at 30 years old, I finally realized what I want to be when I grow up.  On Wednesday I started the process of pursuing it, and by FRIDAY I was on the path.  I can’t believe how quickly it’s happening, and how easy it’s been.

For now, stay tuned for more painfully happy posts, and the usual work out crap.  Because I really really love working out.

What is your key to success?  What’s the last thing that made you really really really happy?

Have a great weekend friends!

Sometimes it’s the little things

little things

I love Fridays.  I love mentally recapping my week, thinking about my successes, things I could have done better, and planning my weekend.

All in all, this was a pretty good week.  I really got back on track with nutrition, and made it to the box and gym a few times as well.  My inspiration and dedication to reaching my goals is back where I want it to be, and I can’t wait to carry the momentum through the weekend.

There are a few things this week that have absolutely rocked my Kasbah, so here’s my little shout out to what made my week even better.

The song “Latch” by Disclosure.
If I even considered being cranky or unmotivated I just put this song on and any trace of it disappeared.  This is my current happy song.  Download it.  Jam to it.  You’ll thank me.

Raspberries are in season.
They are my favorite berry, and they are super tasty and cheap at the grocery store right now.  Even better, I don’t HAVE to put them in a glass of wine to love them… though they ARE delicious that way too.

New underthings
I kind of went a little crazy last week and bought a bunch of new bras and panties.  It might seem silly, but knowing I have sexy lacy matching fun underthings on under my boring work clothes every day has put a little extra spring in my step.  And you’re welcome for that visual.

The community at my box
I say this all the time, but holy crap these people are awesome.  I needed help and motivation earlier this week and a number of people went above and beyond to help me find my way back.  I would mention them all, but I don’t have super awesome nicknames picked out yet, so instead I will just say thank you.

In addition to that, we really are kind of like family.  Super awesome girl coach and Pervy but we love him anyway coach are in Hawaii as we speak and about to get married.  I think we all feel like we’re there with them, and can’t wait to welcome them back as husband and wife.  Crossfit is just an amazing thing to be a part of, and I get all warm and tingly every time I think about how lucky I am.

So what about you guys?  What made your week great?  I would love to hear what “little things” made an impact on you.

Happy Friday kids!
